T H E N A M I N G 28 minutes 2000 This video examines family and the ways that history, even the unremembered, can alter contemporary events and behaviors. The history was the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1923, when up to a million and a half Armenians in the Ottoman Empire were murdered. My Armenian grandmother and her family immigrated from Constantinople, now Istanbul, Turkey, in 1921. They remained nearly silent about their history to their children and grandchildren. My father had a spinal cord injury in 1987. After his injury it seemed that few family members were able to visit more than a few times. Some were never able to see him. The video links family avoidance of illness and death with the genocide. Nominated for Best Documentary, ARPA International Film Festival, Hollywood, CA, 2002.
